Product:
Personal growth app

Context:
EverBetter is a personal development app aimed at users aged 18–65. It empowers individuals to achieve self-improvement through manageable steps and clear visual progress indicators.

Project Duration:
January 2025 - March 2025

My role:
Executed Full design lifecycle execution, including wireframes, prototypes, user research, and engagement-focused implementation.

Employed user-focused design methods throughout the project lifecycle

I uncovered user struggles with personal growth through hands-on research, then crafted accessible, motivating self-improvement solutions through repeated design and testing cycles.

User Research: Understanding the Motivation Gap

Through interviews and surveys, I discovered that users often struggle with maintaining motivation for personal growth goals. The initial enthusiasm wanes when progress feels invisible or too gradual, highlighting the need for consistent positive reinforcement.

Pain Points Identified:

  • Progress Visibility:
Difficulty visualizing incremental improvements in abstract qualities like confidence or patience.
  • Long-term Motivation:
Challenges in maintaining momentum after initial excitement.
  • Celebration Deficit:
Lack of meaningful rewards or acknowledgment for small steps toward personal growth.

User Research Discoveries

Stressful Timeframes

"These apps always want me to set a 30-day goal—but what if I just need to take it one small win at a time?"

Invisible Growth

"I keep doing the work, but it feels like nothing's changing—there’s no way to see if I'm actually growing or just stuck."

Identifying Scenarios for Enhanced Engagement

Analyzed user interactions to pinpoint scenarios where users are most likely to disengage:

  • Initial Goal Setting:
Users feel overwhelmed by broad objectives.
  • Progress Pause:
Motivation dips when progress isn't immediately visible.
  • Accessibility:
Users with disabilities require a more accessible interface.
  • Lack of Feedback:
Absence of acknowledgment for small achievements leads to disengagement.

Based on user insights, we established the following design requirements:

Clear Visual Progress Indicators

To make abstract personal growth tangible.

Immediate Positive Reinforcement

Celebration screens after logging achievements, regardless of size.

Customization

Allowing users to create personalized micro-actions specific to their unique situations.

Generating ideas that put users first

Developed concepts focusing on simplifying the personal growth process by breaking down goals into micro-actions, enhancing motivation through visual progress indicators, and integrating celebration features that offer immediate, positive reinforcement for small wins.

  • Simplified Goal Creation
Reducing complexity in setting personal development goals.
  • Progress Visualization
Designing dashboards that reflect incremental achievements.
  • Reward Mechanisms
Implementing vibrant animations and messages to celebrate user milestones.
